Community guidelines

Oslo.SPC is an open community with a set group of organisers. Our intention is for Oslo.SPC to be a community that facilitates events and social gatherings centred around photography in general, and street photography in particular. We welcome everyone.

To foster a community driven by positivity, support and open exchange of ideas and opinions, we expect everyone that participates in arenas governed by Oslo.SPC to adhere to this code of conduct. Failure to do so will result in permanent exclusion. Exclusion is to be interpreted as by any applicable means deemed necessary by the Oslo SPC organisers group, including but not limited to our online and social media presence, as well as physical gatherings and events.

Be responsible

  • Always abide by the terms of use of the social media platform through which you interact with our community. A good example is when commenting online on things published through Oslo.SPC owned media and platform accounts.

  • Do not say anything online that you would not say directly in person. Consider how other people might react before you speak.

Be nice and respectful

  • Always be polite and respectful of individuals’ opinions, especially if discussions become heated. Agree to disagree and know when to stop arguing. Flaming is not tolerated.

  • Comments, messages, statements or behaviours that are obscene, racist, sexist, or in any other way discriminatory, threatening or harassing, personally offensive, defamatory, or illegal are not tolerated and will be removed. Repeated occurrences will result in exclusion without further warning.

Be constructive and helpful

  • To debate and critique each other's pictures is fine and fun – but always respect the views of others. Praise is fine, but do not offer criticism unless you are invited to do so.

  • Be ready to accept honest critique if you ask for it. Try to be curious rather than defensive. If you are the one giving critique, keep in mind that you are in the other person’s personal space and make an effort to give critique in a suggestive manner.

  • Your opinions and tastes are just that – yours. Photography is an art form like any other so realise that there’s no right or wrong other than legal and illegal. The rest is just opinion and everyone else’s matters just as much as yours.

Note that the guidelines above refer to all user interactions on Oslo.SPC owned media and platform accounts, which include not only the written content of comments, but also private messages. At Oslo.SPC we aim to be as transparent as possible about our moderation practices and the reasons behind them, but it is not Oslo.SPC’s policy to discuss individual moderation.
